Work Begins on Office Condos

Construction is under way on a $7 million office condo building in a new $60 million office park named One Madison Plaza in Madison.

"We're trying to leave every tree we can," said J.L. Holloway, chairman of Ridgeland-based Tenax, a private equity investment firm involved in land development, real estate, construction, general equipment sales and leasing, manufacturing health-care software, airplane leasing, offshore construction and retrofitting drilling and production vessels.

"We're finding there is a big demand for office condos," Holloway said. "Part of the reason is someone buying office condo space is entitled to some incentives under the Gulf Opportunity Zone Act." More >

Louisiana's tax-free hurricane recovery loan capacity running low

Nearly all the tax-free borrowing available to private businesses in Louisiana through a hurricane recovery program called the Gulf Opportunity Zone Act has been committed, with hundreds of millions of dollars in requests still outstanding.

The program has been much more successful than anticipated, and state officials said Thursday they are considering ways to ensure projects that have been approved for GO Zone money - capped by the federal government - is actually used, rather than lost. More >

Business leaders celebrate a bustling year

Mississippi's top business leaders celebrated a year of progress and promise on Tuesday at the Gulf Coast Business Council's monthly board meeting.

Council members pushed for wind pool reform legislation, a GO Zone Act extension, master transportation studies and a regional water and sewer board. The group also created the nonprofit Renaissance Corporation to help deal with the affordable housing crisis. More >
